The time is now

After much planning, the time is now...we will meet on Saturday November 14th 2009 at Highlands Presbyterian Church in Grayson Georgia to begin construction of the Yellow Ribbon Quilts. All of the donated fabric has been cut into the size that will be used in the quilts. Our quilters will bring sewing machines and all the necessary tools to create these wonderful quilts for our fighting men and women in Afghanistan. Our plan is to have the quilts ready to ship by the end of the month so that the troops will receive the quilts in time for Christmas.

There is still time to join our efforts. It would be really great if other quilt guilds or any group of quilters would join us and "adopt" a military unit as well. It is expected with new deployments, by the end of this year the number of US troops in Afghanistan will be up to a new high of 68,000. That being said there are plenty of soldiers that would love to receive a handmade quilt from home and know that we truly support their efforts and wish them a safe return home.

Check back soon for photos of the Yellow Ribbon Quilt Project sew-in and the quilts that we will create as our thank you to the troops.

  1. I can't wait to see more pictures! The picture of the first yellow ribbon quilt looks AMAZING! I know its probably starting to get cold over there and the troops will appreciate having something homemade to keep them warm and remind them of being back home with their families.
